A large number of spectators, consisting mainly of beautiful women, thronged the El-Wak stadium in Accra last Sunday to catch a glimpse of music and football stars as they engaged each other in a football match.
The women came in all kinds of outfits, some very sporty while others were quite seductive, as though their intention were to draw attention to themselves.
The line-up for the musicians included Screw face, Tinny, Pepsi, Antwi ne Antwi, Castro, Lord Kenya, Obuor, Prodigal of VIP fame, Samini, Chemphe and Tuga, while that of the Black Stars was made up of Suleman Mamunatu, Ahmed Barusso, Michael Essien, Sulley Muntari, Laryea Kingston, John Paintsil, Haminu Draman, Aziz Ansah, Awulley Quaye Jnr., Anthony Obodai and others.
From the onset, the musicians, displayed some wonderful individual skills much to the admiration of the large crowd who applauded and cheered them on.
However, by the 20th minute, goalkeeper Screwface in post for the musician team had picked up three balls from his net with two of the goals coming from the foot of John Paintsil who led the attack for the Black Stars and the third by Haminu Draman.
Thereafter, the musicians appeared determined not to concede any more goals as confident central defender, Castro, became a mouthful for the Black Stars attackers who could hardly go past him as he dispossessed Essien, Muntari and Paintsil of the ball anytime they entered the penalty box till half time.
The midfield quartet consisting of Lord Kenya, Obuor, Prodigal of VIP fame and Samini were a threat to the defence of the Stars for most part of the first half.
Just after recess, Samini, who squandered lots of chances in the first half, managed to beat Black Queens goalkeeper, Memunatu Sulemana in the post for the Stars to reduce the deficit for his side.
Paintsil reacted swiftly six minutes later when he beat two of his markers at the edge of the penalty box to fire a feeble one into the net.
In the 57th minute, Samini beat an offside trap to send a thunderbolt over the head of keeper Sulemana into the roof of the net for the second goal, amid a thunderous applause from the entire stadium.
Paintsil scored the fifth goal in the 79th minute after Laryea Kingston had hit the woodwork earlier with a volley outside the vital area. Sulley Muntari could not travel the full length of the game as he had to be substituted as a result of a knock he picked from Tinny.
This did not deter the Stars as they managed to get the sixth goal in the 85th minute when Turkey-based Barusso blasted a shot from just outside the centre circle into the net to bring the final score to 6-2 to lift the giant trophy at stake donated by Alhaji Rashid Bawa, Ghana’s Ambassador to Saudi Arabia. The match was to ensure a peaceful election later in the year.
Just after the referee whistled for the end of the match, the security personnel at the stadium had a hectic time controlling the large crowd, including the ladies who managed to scale over the inner perimeter fence onto the pitch just to have a close encounter with their idols.
