The Executive Director of Youth Icons Ghana, a non-governmental organization, has called on all well-meaning Ghanaians to throw their weight behind the current campaign being championed by one of Ghana’s finest hiplife artistes, Bice Osei Kuffour aka Obour.
Nana Yaw Osei-Darkwa, who made the call in an interview with BEATWAVES in Accra, said as an organization working to empower young Ghanaians, it was only proper that his outfit supported the campaign being waged by Obour.
He said it was very crucial that the youth made critical inputs in the conceptualization, implementation, monitoring and evaluation of policies geared towards their development.
He noted that it was very expedient that Obour being a youth himself had critically studied the Ghanaian system, diagnosed the challenges facing young people and not stopping there but bringing it to the fore for a national debate on the issue.
Nana Yaw Osei-Darkwa said, “This is what we of Youth Icons stand for. We believe that it is very disingenuous to be an Icon and leave it at that. We are of the conviction that celebrities must use their iconic status to positively affect society by embarking on projects that had the potential to cause social change.
“Obour has constantly shown the traits of a true icon, taking into cognizance his constant desire to help deal with challenges confronting his country.”
He said as an individual, he was so much motivated by the road safety campaign project Obour had embarked upon and the impact it made.
He observed that it was very unfortunate that other stakeholders like the media did not see the critical importance of that project thereby limiting the airplay of the wonderful musical video.
He said the country had lost and continue to lose its nationals through road carnages, proposing that Obour’s road safety campaign song should be adopted by all media houses as their contribution to ensuring safety on our roads.
Nana Yaw Osei-Darkwa who urged Obour not to give up on his campaign which he strongly believed was God-sent, said Obour’s call was long overdue and called on all stakeholders to give it a critical ear.
Nana Yaw Osei-Darkwa urged all Ghanaians especially the youth to eschew mediocrity since it had the potential to kill their creativity. He said all young people were capable of great things and should therefore not allow themselves to be limited by their age.
He pointed out that it was the promotion of an ‘I CAN DO’ spirit especially among the youth that can lead to a prosperous Ghana for all, adding that his outfit had already identified with Obour’s campaign and they were together going to embark on practical projects aimed at empowering the youth of Ghana.
He therefore called on corporate Ghana to come on board to help build a strong and formidable Ghanaian youth who were creative, hungry for success and daring.
