Mobile communications giant, MTN, has expressed satisfaction with the company’s association with Samini and is looking forward to further consolidation of their relationship.
Speaking at a ceremony in Accra where the popular artiste was presented with an undisclosed amount constituting outstanding settlement of his ‘ambassadorial fee‘, MTN’s Chief Marketing Officer in Ghana, George Andah said MTN signed on Samini as its music icon last year when the brand was introduced onto the Ghanaian market and that act has greatly transformed customers’ experience with the brand.
“Obviously, that does not come for free. There is some consideration that we give to him in exchange for the support he is giving us. We are currently in dialogue to extend the contract,” Andah stated.
Samini used the ocassion to present the trophy he won recently in Nigeria for being the Best African Hip Hop Artiste, to the MTN management.
The award is the third international recognition for Samini and his music. He won the prize in the West Africa Best New Act competition in 2004. The artiste was adjudged the Best African Act at the Music of Black Origin (MOBO) awards ceremony in England last year.
Andah congratulated Samini for his latest achievement and wished him more successes in the future.
“He has always proved to everyone that he has great passion for the work he is doing and we know that with constant support from partners like us, he can go further than this.”
The Chief Executive Officer of MTN operations in Ghana, Brett Goshen wished Samini well and hope expressed the hope that the new award was a sign of bigger things to came his way.
Samini’s maiden album, Dankwansre, appeared on the scene in 2004. The follow-up, Samini, came out in 2006. He is currently in the studio finishing a new album.
