The mortal remains of Mrs Gladys Angelina Kwarteng, mother of renowned hiplife artiste Sidney was last Saturday interred at Akwatia in the Eastern region, after a burial service at the Presbyterian Church in Akwatia.
The burial ceremony was attended by a cross-section of music lovers, friends of Sidney, a large number of hiplife and highlife musicians as well as some executives of the Musicians Union of Ghana (MUSIGA).
The presence of the hiplife artistes attracted music lovers in Akwatia and surrounding villages, who trooped to the venue to have a full glare of the artistes they only see on the screens.
Some of the hiplife artistes who mourned with Sidney included Abrewa Nana, A-Plus, Dr Poh, Obour, Praye, Omanhene Pozo, King David, VIP and a host of others.
DJ Alordia of Hot FM, UK, Isaac Aidoo of Goodies Music Production and Big Ben were among music producers and event organizers who attended the funeral.
Sidney Ofori, who in his tribute recounted the memorable moments he shared with his mother, said independence and self-reliance were some of the virtues put in him by his mother. “Sadly, after so many releases, this is the first time that I have dedicated a song on my album to my mum. And she liked it very much,” the hiplife rapper said in an unusually low tone. When Beatwaves consoled him and succeeded in getting him to speak more audibly, he sighed and continued; “My mum used to dance a lot to the song ‘Wo Yonko Da Ne Wo Da’ (literally meaning one good turn deserves another), which I had devoted to her.
Sidney is known for such popular hits as ‘Scent No’, ‘Obiaa Nye Obiaa’, the controversial ‘Apuskeleke’ and ‘Africa Money’, which is the latest.
