Soccer and music fans will get seeped into the euphoria of the upcoming 26th MTN Cup of Africa Nations (CAN) Ghana 2008 football fiesta with the MTN-sponsored Go Africa concert at the Independence Square on Saturday night.
The line-up of international stars featuring at the pre-tounament jam include roots reggae superstars Steel Pulse from the United Kingdom, 2Face Idibia from Nigeria, Blu 3 from Uganda, Malaika from South Africa, King Nee from Togo, Don Metok from Benin, Orentchy from Cote d’Ivoire as well as Ofori Amponsah, Samini, Kwaw Kese and Tic Tac from Ghana.
Steel Pulse has established itself as a consistent and commercially successful band on the international scene for over two and a half decades.
Their albums, including Handsworth Revolution, True Democracy, Earth Crisis and Babylon the Bandit are reggae classics and appreciated around the world. The band was in Ghana in December 2006.
Blu3 is a sprightly all-girl trio with sassy stage manners. They showed a slice of what they can do to music lovers here when they performed at the 2006 Ghana Music Awards.
2Face Idibia is an international award winner and well known in Ghana. His African Queen song moves people and his R&B style is very likely to be warmly received at the concert.
Malaika is a three-member Afro-pop group hailed for their neo-soul and strong home influences on their music. They won the Best Newcomer Group award at the 2004 Kora Awards.
Orentchy fuses different musical styles, the famous zoblazo included, that evolve into irresistible, very danceable sessions at his shows. He could be the real crowd-pleaser at the concert.
The Ghanaian acts on the show are currently making waves at home. Their sharing the same stage with the other African musicians will, no doubt, symbolise the kick-off of healthy rivalry on the soccer pitch a few hours after the show.
