The Ghana Music Awards Festival 2007 which takes of in May now seems to be the talk of the day and there is a never a day that passes by, without hearing Ghanaian music stakeholders say a word or two about the awards ceremony.
Ghana Base Music reporter Kwaku Nyarko spoke with a music producer over the weekend and he expressed misgivings about the nature of nominee selections.
Mr. Albert Kwasi Owusu of Ankobeahene Records threw up a challenge to Charterhouse Ghana, the organizers of the Ghana Music Awards Festival 2007, to make public the research it did, which influenced the decision of the selection committee to arrive at the nominations for this year’s Ghana music awards.
“I challenge Charterhouse to publish the research by the selection committee for us to see the truth”, he said.
He said if the criteria used by the committee is essentially about airplay and popularity, then he’s amazed at the refusal of the committee to nominate some songs especially in the gospel music categories which enjoyed massive airplay and popularity in Kumasi.
He cited examples like Rev. Prince Nyarko’s hena ne w’adamfo pa, Onyame ye by Francis Asumadu and Nea asi biara by Mama Esther.
He went ahead to advice Charterhouse Ghana to do well to have representatives from every region in the various committees so as to make the event national in character.
