According to the Megahits music chart, which is apparently recognized in the country, the deceased gospel singer, Bro Philip’s song, “Yesu Yeda Wase” is the top gospel song in Ghana today.
And the recently released list of nominees for this year’s Ghana Music Awards indicates that the late Bro Philip is in serious contention for the two top gospel awards – “Gospel Song of the Year” and “Gospel Artiste of the Year”.
But the sad thing is that the late young and talented singer “can only eye” the awards from his grave. Death laid its icy hands on the singer early this year after he was knocked down by ill-health.
At the time of going to press, his hit song “Yesu Yeda Ease” was still topping the charts with gospel big shot, Christiana Love, following closely with her song, “Se Waa Maa”. The other challenger, Kwaku Gyasi, was perching at 14th sport of the 20-song chart.
Bro Philip in his hit song invited his fans to accompany him to go and thank God.
They did and patronized his song. Now it is expected that the public will vote massively for his song to attract an award as a tribute to the fine singer who did not live long to enjoy the fruits of his labour.
