The Ghanaian highlife maestro and 2004 Spacefon legend, Abrantie Amakye Dede’s appearance before the District Magistrate Court at Madina on Monday March 19, 2007 left many wondering what precisely could bring this all-important musician to the Law Court.
The writ which bears the affidavit of one Nana Yaw Agyapong indicates that somewhere in June 2006, Abrantie Amakye Dede purchased air conditioners from him amounting to Forty-five million cedis (45,000,000).
The writ revealed that Amakye Dede paid forty-two million, five hundred thousand cedis (42,500,000) and has since refused to pay the balance in spite of several demands and visits to his house.
Meanwhile, in defense Amakye Dede also swore an affidavit that reads; “The contents of this affidavit unless otherwise stated are matters within my personal knowledge, information and belief.”
His defense indicated that sometime in June 2006, Agyapong sold air conditioners to him on credit terms, and that the total value of the items was forty-five million cedis (45,000.000).
Abrantie indicated further in his defense that around the same time, Agyapong also purchased a Motorola mobile phone from him (Amakye Dede) at the cost of two million, five hundred thousand cedis (2,500,000) on credit.
The defense underscored that the agreement then was that he (Amakye Dede) should offset the cost of the phone with the remaining amount otherwise meant for the air conditioners.
He added that the plaintiff is consequently not entitled to any claim of Two Million Five Hundred Thousand cedis (2,500,000) from him.
