Okyeame Kwame, the Ghanaian Rap Doctor and some other Kumasi-Based Ghanaian musicians have expressed displeasure at the way they are discriminated against by Event Organizers in the Capital city anytime they organize big musical concerts. A typical example the President’s Show which was held in Kumasi.
Of the many Ghanaian Musicians who mounted the stage to perform at the “President’s Show”, none of them was based in Kumasi. This they say is becoming too alarming and calls for immediate measures to curb this practice.
In an interview with Okyeame Kwame, he said he was not invited and even got to know of the show when he was given a phone call by a colleague of his on the night the concert was held.
He continued that this is not the first time they have been denied the opportunity to perform at such events and said its high time event organizers from Accra engaged Kumasi based artistes in their events and eschew any of those frivolous perceptions they had about Kumasi Based Artistes.
He also said it's not only events that they are discriminated against, "even when one comes out with an album and gives copies to Accra based radio presenters to play, most of them just don't play them, and this is Killing Ghana Music in Kumasi”, he said
In his opinion, Shatta Rako who is also a Ghanaian musician based in Kumasi said this always occurs because many of these organizers have an erroneous impression that Kumasi based artistes are not “Crowd-Pullers”, but expressed optimism that with time this perception would change.
