Twenty-four schools participated in the event. They comprised five girls’ schools, two boys’ schools, three training colleges and 14 mixed schools from the Ashanti Region.
Most of the competing schools do not teach music and the competition is expected to encourage them to start.
Bekwai Seventh-Day Adventist Secondary School, which came first in three consecutive contests, again took the first position. It received a trophy, donated by the CNC.
The second position went to Bantama Adventist Secondary School, which received a decorated wood carving.
The awards for best singing girls’ schools went to St Louis Secondary, St Monica’s and Prince of Peace Secondary Schools respectively. For the teacher training colleges’ category, St Louis Training College came first.
The Director of the CNC, Mr Samuel F. Adjei, expressed the hope that the youth would cultivate the spirit of patriotism as Ghana celebrated her Golden Jubilee.
Mr Adjei advised schools in the country to teach Ghanaian music to help to preserve the nation’s culture.
