Ghanaian Traditional Highlife Star Amandzeba also known as Nat Brew will today 25th March 2007, stage a performance with South African jazz icon Hugh Masekela as part of the celebrations of the “commemoration of the 200 years of slave trade abolition” at the Elmina Castle.
Known for his rich and indigenous traditional rhythms which portray the true culture of a Ghanaian, there couldn’t have been any better person than Amandzeba to do such a performance on this great day.
To him, this performance is like reflections of what our great forefathers and ancestors went through during the colonial days. This he believes is what really inspired him to offer to perform on this occasion.
Amandzeba says he wants all participants of this celebration to reap mutual respects as benefits of the abolition of the slave trade.
One of the key songs he would be doing is his ever enchanting “wogbe”, which tells the story of how Ghanaians migrated from Israel to our current settlement.
Amandzeba is currently working on a new traditional record which features loads of young and upcoming artists who also like the traditional way of portraying the Ghanaian culture through music.
In 1807, the English Parliament abolished the slave trade.
Joining the celebrations will be Ghana’s President John Agyekum Kufour and Baroness Amos.
British Prime Minister Tony Blair will make a statement through a recorded video message.
