After the jury in his trial had failed twice to arrive at a verdict, it was the expectation of most fans and admirers of the popular highlife singer Daasebre ‘Ahoofe’ Gyamena that their idol would be set free when he made an appearance in court again on March 12, 2007.
However, these hopes and aspirations were dashed last Monday, when Daasebre failed to appear before a British crown court where he is presently standing trial. The case could not come on and had to be adjourned to May, 14, 2007 due to the inability of the prosecution to provide a very important witness in the case.
The failure of the renowned musician to make an appearance in court for his fate to be decided once and for all has left a sour taste in the mouths of his fans who are yearning to see him free to continue to churn out good music.
Although, his current album, “Ma ye mo sete” literally meaning” I have tricked you; is receiving radio airplay across the country, most people believe the promotion and sale would have been for better if the musician himself were around.
It will be recalled that Daasebre Gyamena, was arrested on June 29, last year by security and customs officials at the Heathrow Airport for possessing cocaine.
His unexpected arrest sent shock waves amongst several people especially the Ghanaian community across the globe. He had been in the custody of the British security personnel since then.
