Ghanaian Music Star Gyedu Blay Ambolley has urged the Ghanaian Government to setup a new body to oversee the activities of the Ghanaian Music Industry.
Gyedu Blay Ambolley said this on Metro TV’s Music and Copyright series, a music awareness programme on copyright issues sponsored by BUSAC and hosted by Carlos Sakyi.
He also made the assertion that, if the Ghanaian Music Industry is well structured and managed properly, the Ghanaian Music is going to be a foreign exchange earner for the country in addition to cocoa and gold, which have independent bodies overseeing to them.
He said government has given too much attention to resources such as cocoa, gold and others to the detriment of music, which is also a potential foreign exchange earner.
“When a Ghanaian musician comes out with a hit song, it will transcend the boundaries of the country and this will definitely fetch the nation some foreign exchange in addition to cocoa and gold”, he said.
He gave examples of the Beetles of the UK, Abba of Sweden and Angelique Kidjo of Benin who served as ambassadors of their country, on the shoulders of music.
He concluded that if Ghanaian music is given an attention by the government such fine musicians whose names have he motioned above could be produced in Ghana.
