As part of activities marking Ghana’s 50th anniversary, the highly anticipated “Ghana as One” dinner came off successful as planned, amidst a controversial “loose talk” by Highlife Maestro Kojo Antwi on whisper’s performance…. [can you blame him?]
The programme put together by Agoo Magazine and Joy FM, left in its trail great memories which may linger in the minds of patrons for a long time.
The event, which was held at the Independence Square in Accra, was in collaboration with the Ghana@50 secretariat. The highlight of the event was the strong presence of the top American music group, The Whispers, as well as Howard Hewitt of Shalamar fame.
Fine Ghanaian musicians, Kojo Antwi, Gyedu Blay Ambulley, Paapa Yankson and Jewel Ackah brought their individual styles to bear on the show which kicked patrons off their seats onto the dance floor.
Samini (Batman), the high flying singer wowed the patrons with reggae, hip hop and some local music tunes. Gospel singers, Kwaku Gyasi and Ola Williams also fed the souls of the guests with sweet songs from their respective repertoires. Apart from the musical performances which evoked memories of yesteryear, one other great show which excited the guests was the three- segment fashion show put up by some of Ghana’s top designers assembled by the Ghana Textiles Printing (GTP).
There were plenty of colours as female guests were dressed in a variety of styles and designs made from bright Kente fabrics. A variety of dishes prepared by some of the finest chefs in the country’s star-rated hotels, as well as some foreign chefs, were Set on several tables at the golden village for patrons to savour.
The communications director for the “Ghana as One gala,” Paa John Bentsifi Dadson said the organisers achieved their prime aim of bringing Ghanaians together in a joyful atmosphere.
In another development, a Ghanaian entrepreneur and chairman of the local organising committee of CAN 2008, Dr Kofi Amoah, last Sunday hosted a cocktail for the visiting American music group, the Whispers, at the Golden Tulip Hotel.
The well-attended event was Dr Amoah’s personal appreciation to the group for being part of Ghana’s golden jubilee celebrations.
Additionally, he said it was to underline the importance of Ghana’s position in bringing liberation to the African continent and the rest of the black world.
