The popular "Wednesday's at the Paillote” programme, which is held regularly at the Alliance Francaise in Accra bounced back after a short Christmas break with diverse groups showcasing their artistic creations.
Sponsored by the French Embassy and the Alliance Francaise in Accra, the programme for January 2007 will host Zuktin Zuke, Sogo Traditional Music and Dance Group, Yererekorossi and Okotohrigya Cultural Troupe.
On Wednesday January 10, Zuktin Zuke, the multi instrumentalist and singer Ras Eddie Abderalmani, entertained fans with folk music from Niger, Mali, Senegal, Nigeria and Ghana. They sent the audience back into history with songs that would be sung in various African languages.
Come Wednesday January 17 it will be the turn of Sogo Traditional Music and Dance Troupe, who will showcase a series of traditional music and dance pieces from Nigeria, Togo, Benin and Ghana while fusing drums from Ghana and Nigeria.
Yererekorossi from neighbouring Burkina Faso will mount the stage on Wednesday Janauary 24 with folk music from Burkina Faso. Formed several years ago, the group is expected to introduce Ghanaians to the rich folk music traditions of Burkina Faso.
Okotobrigya Cultural Troupe will introduce fans to their own variations of traditional Ghanaian dance pieces. Led by Isaac Della Avorka, the group will also perform a number of choreographed dance pieces that are characterised by subtle and vigorous movements.
