Kwabena Kwabena’s second album to some has been a long time coming. For others, he was just taking his time to work his magic on the sweet lead guitar he loves.
We all know “Aso” was such a great hit and that presumably put a lot more strain on his shoulders to deliver a product equally smashing as that or better. Nonetheless you can’t rush a work of art and for almost two years since “Aso”, Kwabena Kwabena has now come out with a second album, which he so aptly titles “Dabi” (one day).
The launch was done at the Kama Conference Center off the Osu-Labone highway and it did pull a niche crowd. Known faces from all over the face of TV, as well as known voices on radio put in their best foot to support the unleashing of this brand new album.
It seems lately that the trend in most of the artistes is to adopt a cause that will help improve the lives of the unfortunate citizens of this country. His cause is that of mentally retarded patients who have been rehabilitated but have since become rejects in society as a result of the stigma that clings itself to that situation.
The Master of Ceremonies was Kwasi Kyei Darkwah and we all know how that goes; jokes in Twiglish, great stage presence and a good rapport with the audience.
Besides being treated to great music from Wutah, Adez (Mentor II), Steven Baiden (Saxophonist for the Mega Mix Band) and a couple others, all guests present were served dinner (it came in pretty late and might as well be considered a midnight feast).
Then Kwabena Kwabena himself took us through snippets of his new album and fused it with some of the tracks on his old album. It was a great display and at some point, Orlando Julius joined him on stage and his wife Latoya (remember her from Mentor II, she was a judge). The album launch was graced with the presence of Becca and her manager, Kiki Banson, Rudy Kwakye (Atlantis FM), KOD (Radio Gold), and other ‘known-faces’.
Anyhow, the launch was successful and if it is anything to go by, the radio stations should pick it up and set it rolling. Hopefully he will have a couple of videos to go along with it and not leave it to hang as he did for “Aso”.
