We know Praye, we also know Wutah, we might not have heard too much about Traffic probably because…well…we don’t really care right now. What do they have in common? They all came to the limelight through Nescafe’s African Revelations contest. Nescafe has launched another search this year, hoping to up the scales a bit.
For their first stop, the Nescafe African Revelations (NAR) scouts went to Oseikrom where they saw and heard from some ‘rappadelic’ youngsters. NAR 2008 was in Kumasi to source the talents from the Brong Ahafo and Ashanti Regions. They pitched their tents at the Royal Basin Resort and as you know it, a horde of sagging-baggy-pants-wearing, oversized-t-shirt-wearing young men came in to face the music (pun intended).
Judges for the tryouts were good old Charles Amoah, “Morris Babyface”, Abraham Ohene-Djan, James Oberko (of Luv FM), Copper (the last National Dance Champion), and the Brand Manager for Nescafe, Hafsa Arthur.
As you can imagine the oddest of names came up for the auditions: 2 Pesewas, Kete, 051, OB34, 2-Natural, Website, A ni ne ba, and Kopow. These are the few that made it past the first stage. To choose the top two, another stage was prepped up for them at the Prempeh Assembly Hall where they had to go neck-a-neck with each other and at the end of the battlefield, Kopow won and Kete came in second.
Hiplife stars K.K Fosu, Okra, Reggie Zippy, Kofi B, Ahinkwa, and Kwaw Kesse breezed through the place and showed them what stardom is all about. Next stop for the scouts: Tamale
