A group of musicians have called on the Musicians Union of Ghana (MUSIGA) to be transparent in its activities to pave way for a smooth and successful election come November 15.
The group indicated that since the union’s election date was announced officials had failed to come out openly with information on what was going on, including the names of the contestants as well as the names of the election committee members.
It said since musicians had not been updated with information on the impending election it should be suspended to pave way for proper planning.
The group suggested that the list of all those contesting the various positions should be made public and also advertised in the media, including those appointed as vetting committee members.
Reacting to a letter inviting all contestants to the union’s office for vetting on Monday, the group argued that before the committee could vet the contestants, “we the musicians need to know the identity of the members of the vetting committee. Now we do not even know the total number of delegates who will vote during the election”.
Expressing their grievances, members of the group said they were happy the union would soon go to congress to elect new executives but the right thing must be done at the right time, adding they were not satisfied with the way the election was being organized.
The group called on all musicians to come together and work as a team to build a better music industry in Ghana.
It however advised musicians not to allow division by those who want to enjoy from their sweat.
