It seems that 2007 is the year of perfection for many people. Ghanaian artistes are no exception to that fact and as such there will be a lot of album releases. Emmanuel Nana Appiah Boateng or if you will,
Kontihene is one of the many creative hiplife artistes currently in the Ghana.
With about over three albums already in the bank he’s currently working as a Music Director and Producer with Royal Family Entertainment (RFE).
From his days with Agicoat Music Productions, he moved on to Mega Star Productions and now is with RFE of which he is the prime artiste. RFE has worked with entertainers like Kwabena Kwabena and Kwaisey Pee and are hoping to sign on newer talents.
This 25year old artiste completed Opoku Ware secondary school and has worked on perfecting his career as a hiplife artiste. He’s even gone to the extent of deferring his Commercial Law degree from the Hampton University in Virginia, USA to keep the torch burning on his music career. He enjoys what he terms, “planting music.” In explanation to that he says, “Currently music takes more than 80% of my time. If I’m not in the studio recording, I’ll be assisting my fellow artistes whether in production or in promotion of albums…I drink, eat, sleep, do everything in the studio. It’s my life.”
His latest album, Esum follows other seemingly successful albums: Nyankotong, Nsoroma, and Awia. As you may have realized, he’s tagged all his albums with elements of the weather at this rate he might run short of elements to name them after. But why name them this way? “… I live under Him [God] and I have to symbolize everything that I do to His creation…because I know that I can’t do anything without him.
This 9-tracked album features both known and unknown artistes such as
K.K. Fosu,
Kwabena Kwabena, Dibio Dibio, Nana Agyemang, Dela, and Snooky. All great artiste whom he feels indebted to because of their immense talent. He couldn’t leave his ‘best studio engineer Dan Grahl’ whose help meant the world to him.
Asked which number on the album he felt most in tune with he replied, “Esum is an album from my heart. Every song of the album means a lot to me. It is a total reflection of what I see.”
It’s taken three years to complete this album and that’s because “I try to put himself into the songs that I make” to create a perfect masterpiece for his fans.
As expected of Kontihene, he employs humour in all facets of his music, that’s probably what makes his music what it is.
The new album should be in stores in November.
