Samini or Batman, as some still know him as is not looking back on his way to the top. After grabbing the Music of Black Origin (MOBO) award in 2006 in England, this young artiste is ascending the ladder of international music and taking Ghanaian music a couple of steps higher.
The continents music video channel, Channel O has announced the nominations for the Spirit of Africa Music Video Awards (SAMVA) 2007. The nominee’s list has chosen 46 artists from 12 different countries.
Competing in the same category of Best Male Video with Samini’s ‘African Lady’ is Nigeria’s D’Banj with ‘Why Me’.
Nominees for the video award is based on technical quality, frequency of requests for a video on the different Channel O shows.
Plus, all videos should have been released between June 2006 and June 2007.
SAMVA is in its fourth year running and what makes it unique is that fans have total control over who receives an award.
Channel O’s General Manager Yolisa Phahle tell us that, “We are seeing videos of increasingly high quality and this is a direct reflection of the industry’s growth.
At Channel O we look to strike a balance between promoting the up and coming big names of tomorrow alongside established artists.”
Voting ends on October 4th and anyone can vote through the Channel O website, www.channelo.co.za .
The Award ceremony will he held at the Johannesburg City Hall on Thursday October 11, 2007.
The event will be recorded “live” and will be broadcast on Saturday October 27 at 20:00 CAT on Channel O, channel 87, on DStv.
