AN event management consultant, Mr Prince Akoto has called on radio stations in the country to engage the services of consultants to conduct surveys on their operations for them to know their range.
He said the survey conducted in the Greater Accra and Ashanti regions by Ben Ephson on the most favourite radio stations in the two regions was a good idea, which he said had caused panic among certain radio stations in the two regions.
He added that the survey was not to demoralise some radio stations but to serve as a guideline in their activities.
He said he had observed that based on the survey most radio stations had started restructuring their programmes and employing strategies to enable them also reach the top.
He advised advertising firms which used radio as a medium to advertise products of their clients to adopt the survey, which he noted would guide them in their decision regarding which radio station they have to advertise their clients’ products on.
A number of radio presenters, however, see the survey results as normal in every democratic society.
They were of the view that although it was a media practitioner who did the survey through opinion polls there was the need to support and encourage it to guide us in our activities on air.
The Daily Dispatch survey covered 23 constituencies and involved 91.7% of registered voters, between May 14 and June 23, 2007.
The 10,050 respondents who took part in the survey were asked to indicate the radio station(s) they listened to in the mornings, afternoons and evenings.
The survey mentioned Peace FM as the leading station, followed by Joy FM, which was the second leading station, Adom FM placed third, with Radio Gold getting the fourth position.
In Kumasi, out of 13 radio stations, the survey mentioned Hello FM, Fox FM, Angel FM and Luv FM as the most listened to stations in Kumasi, with Hello FM emerging as the leading station.
