Presenters in the Brong Ahafo Regional Capital Sunyani have poured out comments on ill treatment meted to them by awards and events organizers in the country and more especially in the city of Accra and Kumasi.
Considering programs like Presenters Guide, and other nationwide award events which showcase presenters coming from Kumasi and Accra alone, the presenters in Sunyani feel cheated and looked down upon. SKY FM 96.7 was established in the 90’s and now has other stations including Brong Ahafo Radio (B.A .R.), Space FM and a campus radio station all in Sunyani.
Among other complaints are the mentions of reality shows which they say they have also left out of them. Going round to assess their various performance, it is realized that these presenters who gave this notice are performing better even than some presenters in Accra and Kumasi, the only two cities which is always carrying the bigger focus.
Kwabena Ampong, popularly known as Simple Man on SKY FM is a graduate from the University of Cape Coast and is one of the two main brains behind Radio Valco at UCC and was with Phillip Koah, the proud owner of MAX FM in Enchi.
He holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Social Science and he is the Programs Director for Sky FM and the mid morning “Municipality Drill” host can also be heard when other presenters are not around. From Dunkwa Onoffin and born on February 1st 1972, he is a responsible married man with a three year old baby boy.
He was the first presenter to speak in the Fante dialect in the Region and that has up to date won him many listeners. From the late 90’s, he has been working with the station and says would move out only when he sets up his own station or when he decides to divert from radio.
He added that today almost all the districts in Sunyani have its own radio station and says they shouldn’t be left out in social events organization.
Other presenters including Wofa Asamoah, Kobby Jones and Alhaji Tanko who is also known as FADAB shared similar sentiments. Presenters at Space FM also in the Region have more to say about this issue in the next edition of Weekly Fylla. Keep reading.
