Don’t ever think the above headline is just to attract readers or make mockery of the fact that once you are a doctor, farmer, musician, footballer, nurse or a lawyer you can’t have the skills of any other professional.
This assertion may hold true to the fact that there are certain professions which need serious classroom learning and experience to practice and master. But some people can master a lot of such skills simultaneously.
When the musicians in Ghana, led by their out-going president and a few big guns in the entertainment industry, threw the challenge to the foreign based professionals of the senior national team, many were those who thought they had nothing to do at the studios.
They rather wanted to do some exercise and lose some weight. How wrong patrons and the professional footballers were when the FIFA appointed referee for the day blew his whistle for the commencement of game.
The professionals parading stars like Laryea Kingston, Asamoah Gyan, Derek Boateng. William Thierro, Emmanuel Osei aka ‘Obour’, John Panstil, Tony Baffoe, Alhaji Sly Tetteh, Anthony Obodai among others really proved that this was their terrain as they took the match as a mere warm-up exercise. They drilled the musicians beyond comprehension and tutored the boys some few soccer lessons but not without a fight.
The musicians led by their inspirational captain, Castro D’ Destroyer, left full back Turbo B, right full back Tinny, midfield general Kwabena Kwaabena Kwaabena, with the striking prowess of Samini were enough to ensure that the score line of five goals to one in favor of the professionals was not without a fight.
With almost all hiplife musicians in Greater Accra and a few from the other regions running through to and fro the Karl Reindoff Park (Liberty Professional Park) at Dansoman, the atmosphere could not have been anything better. With commentary from Dan Kwaku Yeboah of Peace FM and good mixes from DJ Willi from Top Radio, patrons and everyone who trooped the Park had a good time.
The attendance can easily be compared to any of the Onetouch Premier League matches which ended some few weeks back.
As early as 7a.m. when this reporter got to the venue, many football fans and supporters of the musicians were all seated waiting for much- hyped big match to start.
All said and done the concept was laudable and if what the organizers said is anything to go by then a re-match is in the offing as some musicians have already started making noise of their absence causing the defeat of their colleagues.
Some of the notable musicians likely to feature in the re-match may include the grand papa of hiplife, Reggie Rockstone, Nana King, Ofori Amponsah, Obrafour, Kwaku Gyasi, Kontihene, Blakk Rasta just to mention but a few.
The technical handlers of musicians namely Ahalji Sidiku Buari, Bola Ray and Goodies would have a hectic assignment of beating the 20th best team in the world. The likes of Essien, Stephen Appiah, Muntari, and Eric Addo are expected in the return match to really send the musicians packing with a cricket score line.
