Erico is back in the Mentor house. Yes, for all his fans, the madness and excitement continues. The evictees (Erico, Gina, K-Gee and Peter) performed last Sunday in a bid to win votes to enable them return to the house. Nana, another evictee, was ill and so he could not represent.
It would have made no difference anyway. After the evictees did various renditions for viewers’ votes, Erico got a chunk of the votes (60%) and took the only slot available in the house.
After the ‘wildcard’ performances by the evictees, Ras Lisa, the only Kumasi rep left in the house came up with her usual below average performance. It beats the imagination how she’s escaped eviction these past weeks. Paul continued the night’s activity with a passable interpretation of Alex Konadu’s ‘A good one der’. Mark described it as a ‘good effort’ whereas Dominic figured he could work on his dynamics a bit more.
Dela came looking the part with her performance of ‘Meridian’ by the Wolomei Band. Clad in traditional all-white cloth like the Ga fetish priests do, Dela sung as best as she could but Mark advised her to work on her intro and outro. Guest judge, Samuel Helwani said something similar but Rama Brew gave Dela a big ‘ayeekoo’.
After Dela’s energetic performance, Faya tried to bring some life to ‘Yellow Sisi’, originally done by Aberakyireba Kofi Sammy. Faya is a Liberian and his delivery was average. His dance moves to the classic highlife number were also not quite right. “You made the effort,” Mark told him. All the other judges decided not to put him under because he’d tried really hard.
Nadjat had an Afro, but sounded too happy for the song she did --‘Gye Me’ by Agyaiku. There was absolutely no melody. It was a class act of one depressing note after another. Dominic sees Nadjat as “the kind of person who is able to do things wrongly and get away with”. Samuel found fault with her pitch amongst other things and asked her to listen to herself and the band if (or when) she mounts the stage again.
Paa showed the audience a more lively side of himself with Eddie Ntre’s ‘Wo be ku me’. His prim and proper ways got in his way, though.
Luckily it was eviction free night. As such there was no fear of being booted out. Now that Erico is back in the house, there’s no telling who’s going home next week. Ras Lisa is a good candidate for eviction next week.
