The hiplife industry has witnessed lots of artists in recent times but it’s only a hand full that were able to come in easily. Some really went through a whole lot of troubles before they were able to come out successfully, they encounter problems with producers and the issue of presenters and their payola too were something they can never run away from.
Reginald Kojo Ainooson popularly known as Reggie Zippy also confessed he went through the same stress and nightmares before coming out to become who he is today after the release of his first platinum album – For Sale with the hit track; “Virgin” .
Reggie Zippy recalls that, all started for him when he was a student at Accra Academy, there he used to mime songs by his favorite artists (both local and international) together with his group called “Tragedy 3”. The group survived for some time and three months after graduation they broke up and he went solo.
He then started with his demo with Ferguson of Big F studio located at south Odorkor. Things were still not moving on in the right direction for him so he decided to move to Options Digital Studio to work with Sugar Tone.
There he started with featuring and he worked with Castro, Osrane, A-Plus, Dr. Poh, Shilo, Pop Skinny, Caesar, Lucky Star, Lucky Mensah, Kokoveli and a whole lot.
The opportunity he had to feature on other artists project motivated him to record his own album without fear because the songs on which he had featured were all hits and he had also become famous by then.
So late 2004 he recorded his 8 tracked album entitled “For Sale” within two weeks. The album had hit tracks like “Virgin”, “Ye no ntem”, “Party time”, “Reggie Zippy” and “Atadwe”.
Getting a producer for this project was not easy but with the aid of his industrious manageress Delawrence Frimpong Manso (Delay) they were able to get a record deal and he was signed on to Frimprince Music Production.
The album enjoyed great airplay nationwide and beyond with the popular tracks “Virgin” and “For sale”; and sold over 30,000 tapes.
On December 24 2006 he traveled to Europe with selected countries like Italy, Germany, Belgium, Holland, Austria and France to perform at some international shows and in all he performed at 15 concerts.
According to him he was so impressed with the response to his music in the outside market and also he was so amazed to see other nationals singing and dancing to his music.
He is currently in town and Weekly Fylla run into him and Dada Bees in the studio where they were busy working on his second album which he believes is going to be an improved Reggie Zippy.
He strongly believes that with Shasha Marley, K.K Fosu and Castro all on that album and the queen of the airwaves Delay managing affairs everybody should expect something very gigantic.
