Batman Samin, Artiste of the Year 2006

Ghana’s most famous hip life artiste, Emmanuel Samini (Batman) was astonished when his name was mentioned as the best Reggae Artiste of the year at the Golden Jubilee Ghana Music Awards Festival held at the La Palm Royal Beach hotel last Thursday in Accra.
His song, Odo which won him the award was declared the best Reggae song among Reggae artistes such as Rocky Dawuni in Fadaland, Akesefuor in African Girl, Dixon in No Vacancy, and Ebo ‘o in Once Twice respectively.
Batman Samini could not control his feelings. To him, winning the award was not his, but the will of God.
The Best Music Producer of the year went to Ofori Amponsah, who was not present and the award was received on his behalf.
The Record Label Award of the year went to Big Ben Music Production, with Appietus taking away the Best Recording Engineering of the year.
The Twediampong Traditional group of Cape Coast also took away the Best Traditional Group of the year, with Obrafour following with the best Video Directing of the year.
The best song writer of the year went to Okomfuor Kwadee.
The night was full of fun and enthusiasm as audience witnessed the beautiful and wonderful performance by Kwesi Pee, who rocked on stage with “Krokro me”.
Ewura Esi added to it with “Gye gye me so” while Jemima Annor Yeboah of Stars of the Future Fame crowned it with her songs.
Other non competitive awards went to other individuals for their meritorious service to the music industry.
They were Professor J. H, Nketia, a musicologist for his hard work and immerse contribution to the music Industry.
Reggie Rockstone, believed to be the Godfather of hip life also had an award for creating new hope and awareness for the youth.
Alhaji Sidiku Buari, President of MUSIGA, received an award for improving the image of the music industry world wide.
Other award winners included Dick Essilfie Dorson, Osibisa, Nana Kwame Ampadu, Jerry Hanson, Ebo Taylor etc.
Vice president Alhaji Aliu Mahama was the special guest of honour for the opening of the whole festival which was in a dinner format.
