Perhaps the single hilife event to hit Ghana this year is here at last and come tomorrow the 28th of April 2007 the National Theater in Accra and the Kumasi Cultural Center would be set ablaze with sizzling hilife tunes brewed in Germany.
The much hyped event deserves all the attention, promotion and recognition it is receiving in almost all the media institutions in the country. Bringing on board over 10 different artists who command a lot of respect in the annals of Ghana hilife music on one single stage in a night can best described as superb.
Though the show is viewed from the entertainment point of view another school of thought is looking at it from a more reconciliatory point of view. They argue their points with the reunification of the Lumba Brothers and Akyeame the hiplife duo who helped in shaping the face of hiplife in Ghana today.
With good old guards like Pat Thomas, George Darko, Charles Amoah, Bob Fiscian, Daddy Lumba, Nana Acheampong, Mc God ably supported by fresh bloods like Okyeame Quophi, Okyeame Kwame one should expect nothing than the stars of Burger Hilife descending from their German base to rock their fans and music lovers to a night of unforgettable fun and quality music.
Anyone who first hears of this program might think it would be expensive but surprisingly enough and to make it a must witness event for all music lovers the organizers have decided to slash the gate fee to a cool 50,000 cedis for the Accra show and 50,000 cedis for couples for the Kumasi share. The idea is to make it affordable for everyone to get the chance of witnessing this great event.
Celebration of Burger Hilife is a program being organized by the Geothe Institue with support from; the National Theater of Ghana, GTV, Citi Fm, Onetouch, Universal Motors (VW), Hospital Engineering, Lufthansa, Busy Internet and of course the Weekly Fylla.
As part of the weekly profiling of various the artists lined up for the program we focus on Akyeame this week together with the well known German sound engineer who has been very instrumental in making Burger music what it is today; Bodo Steiger. Enjoy reading.
Akyeame were the first Ghanaian group to win the hip-life song of the year with the Zapp Mallet produced “Masan Aba” in 1999, and are made up of Kwame Nsiah Appau, a.k.a. Okyeame Kwame and Daniel Quophi Amoateng a.k.a. Okyeame Quophi.
Following the success of their first three albums, Okyeame Quophi spent some few years in the U.S.A. studying sound engineering and on his return, set up his own studio. He has also established himself as a radio and television presenter, with programs on TV Africa and Hot Fm. He released an album in 2005 entitled “Shake that thing” which was quite successful. He is currently married to Stacy of Music Music fame. Okyeame Kwame on the other hand has even grown more stronger in the hiplife and he is been touted as been one of the best hiplifers in the country. He released his solo album in 2005 and it was an instant success. He has done many collaborations and he can best be described as one of the five most wanted rappers in the country today.
Bodo Staiger
Bodo Staiger was born in Bonn, and picked up the guitar at the age of ten. Even though he attended the Academy of Music of Düsseldorf, he left after three years without a degree, and so considers himself self taught.
Bodo Staiger has been a guitarist with numerous artists and bands over the years including Marius Müller-Westernhagen and Karl Bartos, and teaches guitar at Music School of Meerbusch.
His first release was “Lilac Angels” in 1979, after which he formed the Rheingold project in 1980, with three releases to their credit.
In 1986 he started collaborating with Peter Krick (Skyline Studios), and in 1988 he founded Rheinklang Studios in Düsseldorf, where more “burger highlife” albums have been recorded than any other studio in the world.
Since 1988 he has remained active as a musician, sound engineer and producer.
