COME THIS weekend at the Erata Hotel, semi-finalists of this year’s Stars of the Future competition would be determined by able judges.
Having had preliminary auditions in Takoradi, Cape Coast, Kumasi and Accra, Ghanaians would soon witness the gradual rise of three young entertainers when Charterhouse finally selects semifinalists for this year’s competition.
In the various regions where the preliminaries were held, the auditioning trained 78 short-listed wannabe music stars, 35 up-coming comedians and 53 freestyle dancers.
At the Erata Hotel this weekend, this number would be streamlined to reflect semi-finalists of the competition; 12 wannabe Music Stars, 35 comedians and 12 Freestyle Dancers.
These are the finalists who would be featured regularly on TV and be subjected to weekly evictions.
Whoever emerged winner of the music category would take home a brand new salon car, a recording contract among others.
Winners of the comedy and the Dance Categories of the search would take home ¢20 million cash and performance contracts respectively.
Same time last year, hundreds of wannabe stars were auditioned country-wide, among which two amazingly talented young entertainers were “born” – A Music Star and a Comedian Icon.
Today, these two can boast of rubbing shoulders with other West African gurus in both the Music and Comedy industries; just as Ghanaians can also proudly talk of two great but very young stand-up comedians whose presence on stage at events elicits roars of laughter from the audience.
Very soon, Ghanaians would witness a classic display of great talents when Charterhouse launches the album of last year’s winner in the Music category of Stars of the Future - Irene Logan which features Jayne Awindor – the 2nd runner up.
A similar success story can be related about David Oscar – last year’s winner of the comedy category and his runner – up Foster. Today, these two are a very popular household name in Ghana’s stand-up comedy industry.
Stars of the Future was initiated last year by Charterhouse to search for and produce young and budding entertainers “brewed” in Ghana. The search is sponsored by Areeba, Castle Milk Stout, LG, Universal Motors and Close-up.
