Biography of Bibiba - Die Band


For more than 20 years now Bibiba has inspired their fans with their specific sound - a crossover of various African and Caribbean Rhythms:

Highlife, Reggae, Afrobeat, Ska, Highlife and Hiplife.

The most songs of the group are written and composed by leadsinger Chris Buster Kyere and arranged together with the group.

1984
Bibiba was formed in Berlin Kreuzberg
with Chris Kyere, Michaela Kyere, Mark Asamoah, Rainer Böziger, Christian Thiele, Horst Minkenberg, Maxwell und Andi Pfitzer, concerts in the Backsteinfabrik, TU-Mensa, Böcklerpark

1985
concerts in different Clubs in Berlin like SO36, Empire, Salsa, Hasenheide, Quartier Latin, Quasimodo, unnumberous street- and solidarityparties

1986
Masterdrummer Gordon Odametey from Ghana replaced Maxwell, Veronika Vogel joined the group replacing Andi Pfitzer on guitar, 1st Africana Berliner Summerjam in Hasenheide

1987
4 weeks tour with the Kreuzberger Kulturrummel: Wuppertal, Frankfurt, Bad Neustadt, Passau, Deggendorf, Haus der Jugend Neuss

1988
3- month-tour to Ghana o invitation of the Ghana tourist board for the 30 years Independence celebrations, shows at La Pleasure Beach, Cultural Centre Accra and Kumasi, Sunyani, Berekum, Tema, Tamale, Live TV-show GBC Weekend Rendevouz

1989
The band is reformed in Ghana with Chris und Micha Kyere and Johnny Mattatah, Natty Bongo, Theo Dickson, George Cole and Marbell.
Live TV-show GBC Weekend Rendevouz, Supporting group for the Jimmy Cliff show in the Accra sports stadium

1990-1991
Recordings at Elephant Walk Studio, TV-show GBC Weekend Rendevouz
More than 200 concerts in the entire Ghana, show at the PAFAM Trade Fair

1993
Launching of the first cassette album: Bibiba - Jah is coming
Recorded at Roots Anabo Studio by Sammy Quist and Ghana Films Studio, mixed by Andi Thoma in Düsseldorf

1994
Departure of the musicians to Germany. Opening Celebration Black History Month Berlin,
Support of Culture in the Live Music Hall Köln, 6th March celebration in Berlin, concerts in various Clubs z.B.
